Franz and Barbara Leth established Weingut Leth in the early 1960s, in the village of Fels am Wagram. Vineyards are located in the Wagram valley along the Danube, with southern exposure and on the typical soil type for the region - loess. Half of the total 42 hectares are planted with Gruner Veltliner, a local variety that originates and is mainly grown in the area. The grapes are hand picked and a lot of effort is put to proper pruning and arranging the vines. Metal vessels with temperature control are used for fermentation. Red wine matures in French barrels between 18 and 24 months. Weingut Leth has a rich list of wines, ranging from the iconic white of the varieties Grüner Veltliner, Roter Veltliner, Riesling and reds from Zweigelt and Pinot Noir, to a sparkling and a dessert wine made with the help of noble rot (botrytis).
