Domaine de Souch
The Domaine de Souch is located in Jurançon appellation, famous for its white, dry and sweet wines, in southwestern France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, near the town of Pau. The vineyards are spread on steep hills and the work is only manual. This place is exposed to the influence of both the ocean and the mountain. In 1987, Yvonne Hegoburu planted nearly 7 hectares grouped around the estate with Petit Manseng (70%), Gros Manseng (20%) and Petit Courbu (10%). The first wine that was bottled won a gold medal at an exhibition in Paris in 1990. One of the secrets of the wines from Jurançon appellation is the warm winds blowing from Spain in the autumn. They naturally reduce moisture in the grain, slowing down ripening, but making it very intense. Domaine de Souch already enjoys a solid reputation among the best in that appellation. Find the Jonathan Nossiter's ""Mondovino"" movie. Yvonne Hegoburu takes part in it. Pour a glass of Jurançon Sec and endeavour its winique taste!
Jurançon is a little known region in the southwestern part of France, on the slopes of the Pyrenees. Cuvée Monplaisir is a blend of local white varieties: Pty Manseng and Gros Manseng. Domaine de Souch is definitely among the best producers in the area, and given the limited amount we have is a "reading".
