Journey's ends Vineyards
Located in the premium wine producing area of Stellenbosch in South Africa, the Journey’s End winery was established in 1995 by the Gabbs Family. The family acquired the estate and the 20 hectares of vineyards during this time to make high-quality, terroir-driven wines. Today, the vineyard is 40 hectares amongst the Schapenberg hills, beneath which lay 350 million year old decomposed granite soils. This creates one of the most prestigious terroirs in South Africa, and is where Jorney’s End vines are planted. As well as fantastic views, the vineyards benefit from the cooling and cleansing south-easterly wind, known locally as the ‘Cape Doctor’, which comes in from nearby False Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. In the year 2010, the family finished constructing a technologically-sophisticated, 350-ton crush winery on the estate. Immediately, the Journey’s End group also acquired the neighbouring Mount Rozier Wine Estate as well, along with the 45-hectare vineyard that was part of the deal. This helped the group to spread its wings high and achieve phenomenal progress within a short time. Sustainability and minimum intervention are the two main principles followed by the winemaking team at Journey’s End, to retain the original flavors of the fruit as much as possible. The wine range produced by this label is divided into three categories – Tales Range, V Range and Precision Range. There is also the Swartland range in partnership with producers from this region as well as the Mount Rozier range. These ranges of wines are unique and display different but complex characteristics based on the terroirs where they were crafted.

Suartland
In the local South African language "Afrikaans", Swartland means black land, due to the dark gray endemic shrub "Rhenosterbos" – the rhino bush, which turns black after rain and, covering large areas, actually darkens the entire landscape of an otherwise sunny and hot region; long underestimated as a wine region and mainly associated with cereal crops, Swartland is currently a treasure trove for vineyards, from which the best and world-renowned South African wines come, and there are many reasons for this; the climate is not mild and super favorable, but the hot and dry summers, the day-night temperature amplitudes, winds, and cold winters create a certain level of stress for the vines, which, struggling for water and nutrients and literally for survival, develop a deep root system and produce concentrated aromas and very high-quality grapes; almost all vines grow freely like bushes and are not irrigated; some of the oldest soils in the world, over 300 million years old, are indeed in Swartland; the specific sections in the vineyards with crushed granite, stone slate plates, and sandy clays with high iron content are super suitable for certain varieties, and it is precisely on these that the winemakers from the region have focused; Syrah, Grenache, Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Semillon, Mourvèdre, Tinta Barocca, Pinotage, Senzo, Carignan, wines from all these varieties develop unique aromas and inimitable flavors when the grapes have grown on these soils and are turned into wine in a delicate, natural way, without excessive oak influence, by the talented and inspired winemakers in the area; it is precisely the team spirit and inspiration of a small group of enthusiastic master winemakers in 2010 that is the human factor and another main reason for the rise of Swartland; seeing the enormous potential of the old vine estates in the area, a small group of the best: Adi Badenhorst, Chris Mullineux, Donovan Rall, and Eben Sadie decided to create a union of independent Swartland winemakers, adopting strict rules for the varieties and vinification, to make masterpiece wines that they believe will change the perception of South Africa on the world wine map; and they succeed; guided by the following main principles: fermentation only with wild yeasts, wines made only in Swartland from grapes from Swartland, a maximum of 25% use of new oak, a minimum of 90% of each wine to be from the most suitable varieties for the region: Syrah, Grenache, Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Semillon, Mourvèdre, Tinta Barocca, Pinotage, Senzo, Carignan, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier, Clairette Blanc; the brutally good wines of these innovators launch the quality of South African wine into the orbit of the world wine elite and elevate the reputation of Swartland to the status of a treasure trove for vineyards and unique wines - finds from the New World; today, 14 years later, this union from 2010 has remained in history as the "Swartland Revolution", celebrated annually with large events and festivals in the area, it has become a movement of like-minded winemakers, to which more and more join, and the pioneers Sadie, Rall, Mullineux, and Adi are media stars in South Africa.

Syrah
Syrah/Shiraz - Two names of one and the same grape variety - the winemakers from the Old world use Syrah and the ones from the New world - Shiraz. The grape is a deep red, even the pulp, therefore this variety is not suitable for blanc de noir wine style. Syrah wine has specific floral aromas in its youth and develops notes of herbs and spices such as white and black pepper as it ages. These varietal specifics come out better when blended with a small amount of Viognier - a method gaining popularity more and more around the world. Syrah produces wines capable of ageing and improving over decades, which enhances its plummy and almost oriental spicy flavours.
