Domaine Bois de Boursan was founded in 1955 when Jean Versino moved with his family from Piedmont to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The name comes from the area in which it is located. Like many producers on the southern side of the Rhone Valley, they wholesale their wine to major traders in the region. This practice stopped in the 1980s, when the young Jean-Paul Versino took over. It is proud to produce the traditional and classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. He vinifies with the handles and matures the wine for a long time in huge oak vessels and is convinced that this creates the unique character of his wine. Here you will not find anything shiny and fashionable or extravagant and lavish, no, just a wine with a huge character. Winique!

The Rhône Valley is a long, narrow strip in the southern center of France; in practice, this region is divided into two subregions, each with its own character and identity - Northern and Southern Rhône; the northern section is best known for its legendary and long-lasting red wines primarily made from Syrah grapes: Hermitage, Côte Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, and Cornas, as well as the aromatic white Viognier from Condrieu; the south is home to the full-bodied Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, as well as the light Rosé from Tavel; Châteauneuf-du-Pape can be a blend of up to 13 different varieties, of which 3 are even white; this is also the main difference between it and Gigondas, where white varieties are not allowed in the blend; the most famous of these main red varieties are Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Cinsault, while the whites are Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier.

Grenache is the French name for the grape, while in Spain it is known as Garnacha, and on the island of Sardinia they call it Cannonau. In France it is most commonly found in the classic Southern Rhone Blend ( it is the main grape variety in Chateauneuf-du-Pape) but also plays a main role in one of southern France's signature Rosè wine style in Provence.
