This region extends from the banks of the Danube River to the slopes of the Stara Planina, encompassing the fertile Danube plain. A typical local variety is Gamza, also known in Serbia and Hungary as Kadarka. This is a red variety mainly grown in the Vidin and Pleven regions, which ripens at the end of September and produces fresh, fruity, and pleasantly tart wines with a characteristic aroma of raspberries and forest fruits.
