Chateau Palmer is named after the retired british officer – Major General Palmer who bought and had it renamed in 1814. The French folks generally displeased with the Englishmen had a reason to be grateful this time. With significant investments in quality, the general made a name for the chateau on the British market. Since 1938 Chateau Palmer is co-owned by four major négociant families from Bordeaux. The 55 hectars of vines are located on a plateau with gravel soils, growing 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The Chateau is classified as 3ème Cru Classé but many consider this as underestimation. There are certain vintages that are as good as, or even better than those of the famous neighboring Chateau Margaux. Chateau Palmer bottles sensuous and beautiful wine. Everything that makes a Bordeaux great can be found in the bottle.
