Chateau Leoville Poyferre
Chateau Leoville Poyferre begins its modern history in the 20s of the last century when it became the property of the Cuvelier family. They, like many other chateau owners, started in 1804 as wine merchants (negociants). In 1979, a big change was brought about by Didier Cuvelier, a nearly 20-year program for replanting vineyards. The 60-hectare vineyards in Saint Julien are planted with 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Leoville Poyferre's wine offers a rich flavor of ripe fruits and soft strength style. Fragrances of black currant, spices, truffles and tobacco combined with a sensuous and rich structure are specific to this wine. Since 2000, Leoville Poyferre has maintained stable and high quality. Actually, they have so many wonderful vintage harvests that it is difficult to make a choice. You can enjoy it while it's younger, but with a few hours of decanting, and best to wait for 10-15 years of bottling.
