More about this product

Château de Fargues

Château de Fargues

Fargues is the birthplace of the Lur Saluces family of Gironde. For more than five centuries, they have owned various estates and produced wine in the Sauternes and Bordeaux region. The vineyard is 15 hectares on soil of sand, clay and gravel, planted with 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Small quantities are produced and there is no second wine. The grapes develop Botrytis cinerea, also known as noble mold. It increases and saturates the aromas in the grain, but is extremely capricious. The window of time in which the harvest must be harvested is very small - neither earlier nor later. For this reason, there are years when you will not find the famous Sauternes of Château de Fargues. The chateau refuses to bottle any compromise with the quality of the harvest. You have to try it to understand what it means to maintain such a high class.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is perhaps the most famous wine region in France, stretching 130 kilometers inland from the Atlantic Ocean coast; in 2018, 111,000 hectares of vineyards were registered, a figure that has remained largely stable over the previous decade; the main varieties grown here are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, and from these, various wines are made, with each producer having their own blend and proportions of the grape varieties; some of the most famous, expensive, and long-lasting wines in the world are produced here, with the subregions Medoc, Graves, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, and many others being well-known; Bordeaux is divided by the Gironde River into the left and right banks; the left bank (Medoc, Haut Medoc, Graves) is characterized by a more serious presence of Cabernet Sauvignon in the wine blend, while on the right bank (St. Emilion, Pomerol) Merlot predominates; in addition to red wines, Bordeaux is also famous for producing white wines, mainly a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, with the subregion Sauternes leading the ranking and the renowned Chateau d’Yquem, celebrated for its complex, multi-layered, aromatic, and sweet botrytized dessert wine.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most famous white grape varieties, successfully found its way out of the home country France into a second one - New Zealand. The rapid development of the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most dramatic events in the world of wine. The intense and readily accessible flavour of a classic Marlborough is the main reason behind this success - fruity, intense, almost magical. The key selling point of Sauvignon Blanc is its straightforwardness – the flavours are rarely hidden away in the background, which makes Sauvignon Blanc an ideal wine with which to begin a journey in the world of wine. Classic Sauvignon Blanc aromas range from grass, nettles and asparagus to green apples and to more esoteric notes such as cats' pee, boxwood and gunflint.
